Where It Began
In 2018, three best friends from Charlotte, NC made a decision that would change the Queen City forever. Michael Sims, Dan, and Lindsay pooled their savings and opened a small CBD shop on Central Avenue — the very first of its kind in Charlotte.
The motivation wasn't about money. All three had lost loved ones to harmful substances and watched their community suffer. They knew there had to be a safer, more natural alternative. What started as "Charlotte CBD" in a modest storefront became a movement.
They rebranded to Crowntown Cannabis as their mission expanded — not just CBD, but a full spectrum of hemp-derived wellness products. Every product third-party lab tested. Every budtender trained to educate first, sell second. The Charlotte way.
We didn't start Crowntown to build a business. We started it to build something our city actually needed. Every person who walks through our doors deserves to feel safe, educated, and empowered.

Our Journey
2018
Three friends open "Charlotte CBD" on Central Avenue, becoming the first dedicated hemp dispensary in the city. The shop starts small but the mission is big: provide safe, tested alternatives.
2019 - 2020
Word spreads across Charlotte. New locations open as the community embraces the education-first approach. The rebrand from "Charlotte CBD" to "Crowntown Cannabis" reflects the expanded mission.
2021 - 2022
Crowntown becomes Charlotte's largest hemp dispensary chain with stores across the metro area, from South End to Concord to Salisbury. Each location reflects the same values as day one.
2023
Charlotte's first (and only) mobile dispensary hits the road. A fully stocked store on wheels, the CannaBUS brings the Crowntown experience to festivals, events, restaurants, and private parties.
2024
The NoDa Lounge becomes Charlotte's premier 21+ cannabis consumption space — a place to gather, relax, and experience cannabis in a social setting. A first-of-its-kind for the Queen City.
Today & Beyond
The fight continues. Crowntown leads local advocacy efforts to protect legal hemp, educate lawmakers, and ensure North Carolinians maintain access to safe, lab-tested cannabis products.
